Privacy Policy

Plan My Transfer ("Plan My Transfer," "we," "us," or "our") is a free web tool that helps California community college students plan their transfer to the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We are an independent project and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by ASSIST.org, the UC system, or the CSU system.

Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address. If you sign up with Google, we receive basic Google profile information such as your name and email.
  • Profile and academic information. To make the tool work, you give us your home community college, the campuses and majors you're targeting, the courses you add and their grades, your GPA, your language (LOTE) status, and any plans you build or save.
  • Support and bug reports. If you email us or file a bug report, we collect whatever information you choose to send.

Information we collect automatically

  • Usage and device data. We use Google (Firebase) Analytics to understand how the service is used — for example, sign-in events and general, non-identifying information about your device and browser.
  • Cookies and local storage. We use cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and to cache data so the app loads quickly. The local cache typically expires within about 24 hours.

The transfer assistant

When you use the AI assistant, the messages you send — along with the profile context needed to answer (your colleges, target, courses, GPA, and plan) and the relevant ASSIST agreement data — are sent to our AI provider to generate a response. See AI assistant below for details.

How we use your information

We use the information above to:

  • provide the service — check articulation, show eligibility, and generate plans;
  • maintain your account and your saved courses and plans;
  • power the transfer assistant;
  • improve the product and fix bugs;
  • keep the service secure and prevent abuse, such as rate-limiting; and
  • respond to your support requests.

We do not sell your personal information.

How we share your information

We share information only as needed to operate the service:

  • Service providers. We rely on a small number of trusted providers that process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms:
    • Google / Firebase (Google LLC) — sign-in, database hosting, and analytics.
    • Anthropic — the Claude AI model that powers the transfer assistant; it receives your messages and the profile context described above.
  • Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or security of our users or the service.
  • Business transfers. If the project is ever transferred to new operators, your information may transfer with it, subject to this policy.

AI assistant

The assistant is powered by a third-party large language model (Anthropic's Claude). Your conversations are not stored on our servers after a response is generated — they live only in your browser session and are lost when you close or refresh the page. We send the AI provider the messages and the profile context needed to answer your question. Please do not enter sensitive personal information (such as Social Security numbers or financial account numbers) into the chat. The assistant can be wrong — always verify what it tells you with ASSIST.org and your counselor.

Data retention

  • We keep your account data while your account is active.
  • Accounts created with an email address that is never verified are deleted after about 7 days.
  • You can delete your account at any time from Settings, which removes your profile, saved courses, and plans.

Your choices and rights

  • Access and update. You can view and edit your profile, courses, and plans directly in the app.
  • Delete. You can delete your account from Settings at any time.
  • Analytics. You can limit analytics through your browser settings and standard opt-out tools.
  • California residents. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion or correction, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell your personal information or "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@planmytransfer.com.

Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and browser local storage to keep you signed in, remember your preferences (such as light or dark theme), and cache data for performance. You can clear or block these through your browser, but parts of the service may stop working if you do.

Security

We use reputable providers (Google/Firebase) and reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

Plan My Transfer is intended for college students and others aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be reflected here, so please check back periodically.
